The Nightfires: and Obsidian(RavensDale-TTR)
Nightfire Obsidian

Believed to have originated as a vein of naturally occuring stone that stretched from the Nightfires into the northern wildwoods, it had been seldom seen except with major erosion, and the first 3 turnings, was quarried and set as ornate decorations, altar tops, and in artisans finest works.

It rarity made it prized for use by the finest craftsman, and was present in the first few turnings only in a few places.

As the damage to the DunnRing advanced, the stone itself changed.

The curse of the Dancers, fell upon that which was not quarried, and imbued the stone with the magic to convey the images and shapes of other worlds.

Though they were illusions, those who used the stone in any fashion succumbed to the impression of dwelling in a place they dreamed of.

The greatest danger came when some necromancers attempted to use the stone in the form of doors, or archways and incant transportation spells to actually offer portals to real places.

Such was the evil of this incantation that few places or people survived the failure of such an experiment.

And so it remains a powerful illusion, and a dangerous magical component.

So the Story of the Rings is told, by the hand of Lansyter 3rd of the Five, with annotations by the Awake.
