Born Appolonia Munroe to Gerard & Bridgette
Munroe, an aristocratic couple from a small
village in Scotland, Witchblade was marked at
birth with a small white pentacle upon her left
shoulder. Her mother, seeing this refused to
accept the child, denying the heritage that she
herself had run from as a teenager. Gerard wanted
to keep Appolonia, but he finally gave in to the
demands of his wife, and the couple gave the child
to a young peasant couple in the village.
Frannie, the woman that Appolonia was to call
mother, was a "witch" as the town's people called
her. thus she ended up teaching Appolonia her
"trade". that is, until Appolonia had a run in
with an old woman in the woods near their home on
the day of her eighteenth birthday. The woman gave
her what appeared to be nothing more than a simple
jeweled pewter bracelet. However, unbeknownst to
Appolonia, the gift was much more than it appeared
to be.
One evening, after a night of boozing and
gambling, Appolonia's father was assaulted by
another man. Being present, Appolonia rushed to
help her father, and became very, very angry. As
her rage grew, the bracelet transformed into what
appeared to be an armour of some sort. This
"armour" covers Appolonia's entire being, refusing
to let anything, or anyone cause her harm. She
ended up killing the man that assaulted her
father, and the towspeople said that is was by the
"witch's blade" that the man was killed.
Appolonia, being the wielder of this "blade", took
the name Witchblade and made it her own. She
studied the gift that she had been given, and soon
learned how to control it, instead of letting it
control her. Being a very peaceful person, she
very rarely uses the power she was given unless
she is forced to.
Witchblade's father was killed in battle shortly
after her 20th birthday. Frannie lived another 2
years, but then eventually died due to a broken
heart. Angus and Frannie left behind a total of 3
children: Witchblade. Dark Elvis, and Rozalynn.
After the death of her parents, Witchblade began
to wander about, taking on the trade of mid-wife
in order to earn her way. She finally settled in a
small cottage near Rivendell, where she continued
to practice in mid-wifing, along with growing
herbs and creating remedies for simple ailments.
Recently, Witchblade travelled to the home of her
biological parents, in hopes of finding a family
and learning more about her true heritage. When
she arrived, Bridgette was not at home, but Gerard
was. Upon seeing his daughter, the only child that
Bridgette would ever give birth to, he swept her
up and promised that he would never allow her to
leave his side again. Bridgette, however, thought
differently. Upon seeing Witchblade on her return
home, she swore that she would not allow any
"witch", whether of her own blood or not, to
reside in the family home and tarnish the family
name.
Bridgette, being a very domineering woman swore to
Gerard that she would leave him she he decide to
let Witchblade stay in their home. Loving his wife
very much, and not wanting to lose her, he devised
a plan to get his daughter out of the house.
Gerard had two of his footmen take Witchblade into
the village for a day of shopping. As the day went
along, the footmen took her to a shop and left
her. The store keep, and employee of Gerard's, had
been told to give a letter to Witchblade. The
letter stated that although he loved her very
much, he could not allow her to return to their
home. She would never be allowed past the guards
again, thus banishing her from the family forever.
Witchblade was devastated, and returned to her
home near Rivendell with a saddened heart. Since
that time, she has made many friends that have
helped to ease her heartache. She still, however,
longs desperately for a family and a home to call
her own.
